What Did This Study Reveal?
As per a new research, results of which have been published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, stress and insomnia increase the risk of death through cardiovascular disease for the patients of hypertension by three times.
Researchers involved in this study found that in comparison to people who had hypertension along with work stress and lack of sleep, those who had hypertension but slept well and didn’t have work-induced stress, weren’t at such risk.
For the purpose of the study, 2000 employees in the age bracket of 25 to 65 were analyzed. At the time of the study, these people had elevated blood pressure but no cardiovascular disease or diabetes. It was found people who had either insomnia or work-related stress were also at risk of cardiovascular death, but those who had both at once, for them the risk was higher.
Regarding this, Prof. Karl-Heinz Ladwig says, “The risk is not having one tough day and no sleep. It is suffering from a stressful job and poor sleep over many years, which fade energy resources and may lead to an early grave.”
