Everything must be done in moderation. After all, too much of anything is harmful. Even food. You see, when you indulge in overeating, you only put your health at the risk of an array of diseases.

1 – Obesity

When you overindulge in eating, you increase your risks of getting obese. When your body gets more food than that which it requires for nourishment, the extra food is accumulated as fats. This causes an extra soft later of fat to form which is what makes your tummy area bulge out.

Overeating also increases the risks of becoming diabetic. Obesity, which is caused due to overeating, can lead to insulin resistance. Hence, glucose builds up as cells are not able to convert it into energy. This can cause diabetes type 2 or prediabetes.

3 – Digestive Issues

Overeating can also cause digestive concerns to rise by exerting pressure on the digestive system. When you overeat, your digestive system is not able to produce enough fluids to process the huge volume of food. Hence, one may suffer through heartburn, and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

4 – Skin Problems

Overeating can also ruin your appearance. It can make you look duller as the massive quantity of food consumed drains the skin of water content. This leaves it dehydrated and prone to wrinkles, fine lines, etc. Overeating may also cause acne, eczema, etc.

5 – Fatigue

You’d think that eating more would leave you more energized but that is not the case. Binging on food leads your digestive system to signal your brain to sleep so that it may process the food. What’s more, your body tries to get rid of the excess sugar and can get over-efficient while doing so. This leaves you with low blood sugar, and fatigue.

6 – Sleeplessness

The sleep that overeating induces is not a relaxed one due to the digestive discomfort that your body will struggle with. Overindulging in food messes up with the circadian rhythm which negatively impacts your sleep.

7 – Increased Appetite

When you eat too much too often, your body becomes habitual of overeating. This happens because the hormone that indicates fullness to the brain decreases in production. While the one that triggers hunger increases. This causes your appetite to expand. Overeating is also additive since it results in the release of dopamine.

8 – Mood-Related Disorders

The happy feeling that accompanies eating does not last. Eventually, one starts feeling anxious and depressed. This is because when one overeats, he becomes overweight. This can have an adverse impact on one’s self-esteem and thus, cause mood-related disorders.

Overeating may seem good and worthwhile in the moment but when it becomes a habit, it is anything but. Eating too much has several negative impacts on one’s health. Therefore, one should refrain from binge eating and consume only as much as recommended.
