A new study which was presented at the 2009 Experimental Biology meeting shows the link between eating garlic and memory problems such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s. This garlic can do by altering the gut microbiome in a favorable way.
For the purpose of the study, researchers fed older mice a supplement that comprised of allyl sulfide which comes from an organosulfur compound driven from allicin which is found in garlic. The results were compared to mice who were not given this oral supplement and it was found that the first group of mice had better long-term and short-term memory along with healthier gut bacteria.
